More than 55 property companies and 1,500 people across the UK came together yesterday for a giant fundraising effort supporting projects to help disadvantaged young people.
Donations are still being counted but LandAid says it has already exceeded last year’s total of £75,000.
This year, the LandAid Day theme was “All the Fun of the Fair”.
The property industry got involved in fundraising through doing various challenges across the UK, the City of London and West End, passing through some of London’s most famous landmarks.
There were cycling challenges including a pedi-bus relay from the West End to the City of London by GVA, a body zorb football tournament in King’s Cross hosted by Argent, hundreds of property industry workers in circus and fairground fancy dress, fairground games and bake-offs in some of the top property industry company offices.
Peter Vernon and team of directors from Grosvenor got into the spirit by getting their clients to pledge money to save them from the chop. Vernon, who lost the vote, agreed to let a magician pretend to cut off his head. That raised £18,000 for LandAid.
In the main fundraising event of the day, 35 teams and 180 people raised £8,000 for the Treasure Hunt.
The winners of the hunt were the Hollis Jesters, from Malcolm Hollis plc.
LandAid chief executive Joanna Averley said: “It was incredible to see the energy and generosity of the property industry and through coming together they raised a massive amount of money for LandAid, beating last year’s total of £75,000.
“With over one million young people aged 16-25 years old not in employment, education or training, support is needed now, more than ever. So I’d like to thank the property industry for getting involved on LandAid Day and going to great lengths to fundraise for young people most in need.”
