Knowsley Council’s cabinet will meet next week to consider plans for the transformation of Huyton Village Centre.
The cabinet will be asked to agree on the demolition of numerous ageing council buildings to pave the way for the redevelopment.
More than seven acres of land in the town centre are dominated by council buildings which were built in the 1970s and are no longer fit for purpose. The council plans to consolidate its buildings into one new smaller and energy-efficient office block to unlock land in the town centre.
Genr8 Kajima Regeneration was named as development management partner back in 2022 to support the council in its 10-year town centre transformation masterplan.
The first phase of the masterplan for Huyton includes 72 new one- and two-bedroom flats for affordable rent, a 130-bedroom hotel, 85,000 sq ft of net-zero commercial office space, a village green, a library, and a community hub.
Later phases could include up to 150,000 sq ft of commercial office space and up to 300 further homes.
If the council agrees to press ahead with the demolition of the buildings, councillors will also be asked to agree to an initial investment of £3.6m to progress the masterplan to technical design and planning stage.
