Key London postcodes deliver at Savills auction

Savills raised almost £30.5m at its 19 February sale, selling 75% of its catalogue.

The sale, at the London Marriott Hotel at Grosvenor Square, W1, offered a total of 127 lots and sold 95, including a number of £1m+ assets.

Russell Taylor, a director in Savills’ auction team, said: “It was encouraging to commence the year with a strong result. Alongside a busy roomful of buyers, there was plenty of action via telephone and online bids too.

“The auction saw several seven-figure sales over the line in key London postcodes, demonstrating that, at the right price, there is appetite to transact at top level in the capital. People are increasingly lot-specific and will do their homework before coming to the room with a clear idea of what they want.”

He added: “A cross-section of asset types in locations all around the country performed well, suggesting that where buyers spot an opportunity, they are bidding and seeing it through to purchase. Despite the industry headwinds, things are happening, properties are selling and vendors are recognising this sentiment with intentions to bring their assets to market in our spring sale.”

The biggest lot of the day to sell was The Hoo in Hampstead, NW3 (pictured). The Grade II-listed detached property, currently used by an NHS Foundation Trust, sold for £5.5m. Other lots fetching above £1m included Glendower Mansions in South Kensington, SW7 – a five-bedroom, split-level flat with potential for redevelopment, which sold for £1.8m – and a four-bedroom house in need of modernisation in Pimlico, SW1, which sold for £1.5m.

Savills’ next sale takes place on 2 April.
