Linden Homes and Wates Developments are to redevelop the former GlaxoSmithKline site called the Frythe near Welwyn in Hertfordshire.
The site has outline planning permission for 196 new homes, which will be set in 47 acres of parkland to the south of the village of Old Welwyn.
At the site’s core is an historic main house that will be refurbished and converted into 14 luxury flats as a central feature.
A further 18 acres of parkland and woodland will feature as part of the development.
The GSK laboratory site was closed in 2011 and has subsequently been fully cleared and remediated.
This is the twelfth joint venture between Linden Homes and Wates Developments and follows a series of developments across London and the South East.
Linden Homes Chiltern managing director Darren Maddox said: “This represents an exciting opportunity to deliver another first class development of new and refurbished homes and will build on the Linden Wates success at King Harry Park, St Albans.”
Wates managing director David Brocklebank said: “Given the scarcity of available new homes in this part of Hertfordshire we are extremely pleased to have secured another stunning development site with our joint venture partner, Linden Homes, and be able to provide a range of exemplar high-quality new homes and apartments within what will be an outstanding setting.”
