John Lewis to open at Grand Central

VIDEO: John Lewis is set to open its £35m regional flagship store at Birmingham’s Grand Central shopping centre this week.

The 250,000 sq ft full-line shop anchors the £600m revamped Grand Central station – which is due to open on Thursday.

John Lewis invited press to a private viewing of the store yesterday, which is trialling a number of new concepts for the retailer, including a spa and health offering, &Beauty.

Head of Branch Lisa Williams confirmed there will be a new concept throughout the new branch. “We’ve got something new on each of the floors, which is pretty exciting,” she said.

John Lewis opens alongside the wider revamped Grand Central station. Grand Central’s 60 shops, bars and restaurants are 95% let to tenants including Hema, White Company, Cath Kidston, Yo Sushi! And Pret A Manger.

Grand Central will further strengthen Birmingham’s retail offer, making it the only city centre outside of London to house the “big five” department stores – John Lewis, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Debenhams and House of Fraser.

Cushman & Wakefield is letting agent at Grand Central.
