Great Portland Estates has prelet 50 Finsbury Square, EC2, to Inmarsat.
The telecommunications company chose GPE’s 121,800 sq ft City office block as its preferred location in June, as previously revealed by EG, after announcing its intention to leave its current HQ at 99 City Road, EC1.
GPE is currently refurbishing the Finsbury Square building, which is set to open next year. It will contain 117,900 sq ft of offices, 7,350 sq ft of retail and a 2,180 sq ft gym and wellness centre.
The 15-storey building will also include a new 4,500 sq ft terrace overlooking Finsbury Square, as well as an eight-storey curved atrium with space for events and flexible working at the bottom. Practical completion is scheduled for late 2022.
Marc Wilder, leasing director at GPE, said: “Inmarsat is the world’s leading global mobile satellite communications company and we are delighted to welcome them to our latest development. We are working with their team to create a world-class London headquarters that responds to the needs of this forward-thinking organisation by providing an amenity-rich environment, combined with smart-building technology powered by our award-winning app, sesame.”
50 Finsbury Square will be GPE’s first development to deliver on all four pillars of its sustainability statement of intent and is expected to be its first certified as net zero carbon.
Natasha Dillon, chief people officer at Inmarsat, said: “These new facilities will greatly enhance the company’s offering for our people as well as enable our new hybrid working model, where each individual can work from the office or elsewhere as the specific needs of the business and the individual require.”
Cushman & Wakefield advised Inmarsat.
