Indian developer gets green light for new London hotel

Plans to turn the 72,359 sq ft office and retail building at 5 Strand, WC2, into a hotel have been approved by Westminster City Council.

The new 156,184 sq ft scheme designed by Squire & Partners will deliver around 200 new hotel bedrooms, as well as a ground-floor restaurant and top-floor bar and small function rooms at basement level with a capacity of up to 300.

The site is owned by Flora Developments, a subsidiary of ABIL Infraprojects, an Indian construction, real estate development and hospitality company. It acquired the site for more than £90m from Blackrock UK Property Fund in April 2018.
