Ikea is to open its second city centre-format store in Britain as it seeks to reduce its reliance on large, out-of-town sites and reach more customers.
The Swedish furniture group opened the first store in its new “planning studio” format on Tottenham Court Road in central London in October. A second will open next spring in Bromley, southeast London.
The new stores form part of a wider business transformation for Ikea as it seeks to keep pace with changing consumer habits and a growing urban population. Ikea said that it was exploring other locations in London to test different inner-city formats.
