Hyundai wants joint venture partner and asks Scottish Enterprise to hand over Fife site

Hyundai wants the Scottish Office to hand over ownership of the sitefor its delayed semi-conductor plant in Fife. It says it need the titleto assist in raising finance or to enable it to put together a jointventure with another company.

The 60.7ha (150 acre) site belongs to Scottish Enterprise, thedevelopment agency. The agency would have usually transferred the titleafter the site opened.

Hyundai postponed the first £1.25bn phase of the memory chipfabrication plant to the end of 1999, a year later than planned. Itblamed the delay on the financial crisis in Korea. This week it stoppedall work for four months.
