The redevelopment of Holt Town, spanning 74 acres between Ancoats and SportCity, has been approved by Manchester City Council.
The proposals comprise a mixed-use neighbourhood with 4,500 homes of different types and tenures – from family housing to age-friendly and keyworker flats – incorporating 15 acres of green space surrounding a play street spine, provision of new local services, cultural hubs and 30,000 sq ft of affordable workspace.
The regeneration project will be centred around an open-air pool to be built on Cyrus Street. This will be the first lido to open in the city in decades after the Galleon in East Didsbury and Alexandra Park’s lido closed in the 1980s.
The draft neighbourhood development framework was created by Studio Egret West. Work is already underway on delivery, with investment expected to come from both public and private sectors.
