Hollywood Bowl rolls into former Uxbridge Debenhams

Hollywood Bowl has agreed to occupy the whole of the upper floor at the former Debenhams store at Abrdn’s The Chimes shopping centre in Uxbridge, west london.

The bowling operator has signed for 38,000 sq ft. Its offer will include 22 bowling lanes and a nine-hole mini-golf course. It will join Odeon as anchors of a new leisure offer at the mall when it opens in early 2025.

As well as the letting to Hollywood Bowl, TK Maxx has agreed to take 25,000 sq ft on the lower floor of the former Debenhams, relocating from the Pavilions. It will open in October this year.

Separately, River Island is set to upsize into a new two-storey space at the shopping centre. The retailer will move into a 9,000 sq ft store, opening in March. The deals mean that Abrdn has let nearly 75,000 sq ft at the Chimes in recent times.

Odeon is also refurbishing its nine-screen cinema at the mall for its Luxe offering.

Niall Macdonald, deputy fund manager at Abrdn, said: “The refurbishment of the cinema to the Luxe format and the addition of Hollywood Bowl’s venue secures it as the number one leisure and shopping destination for the catchment, where people can shop and socialise.

“The arrival of TK Maxx later in the year and the new River Island store opening in March will strengthen the fashion offer alongside Next, H&M and New Look.”

Dave Williams, operations director at Hollywood Bowl, said: “Hollywood Bowl has built a strong reputation for bringing affordable family experiences to locations across the UK and we are looking forward to welcoming the first bowlers and putters to Uxbridge towards the end of this year.”

Dan Simms, co-head of UK retail agency at Colliers, which advised on the deals alongside Lunson Mitchenall, said the transactions show “a real confidence in the centre” as a leisure and retail destination.

Simms said: “These significant new lettings will provide a real mix of uses to broaden the retail and leisure provision here, which will continue to attract a wide variety of customers to the centre. We currently have several other units under offer, so expect to make more exciting announcements shortly.”

The Chimes totals 440,000 sq ft across three floors.
