Today EG launches its sixth annual LGBTQ+ in Real Estate – Attitudes, Actions and Allies survey, in association with LGBTQ+ networking organisation Freehold.
The survey, which is completely anonymous (unless respondents specify otherwise), aims to understand more about the continuing progress (or lack thereof) the industry is making on equality, diversity and inclusivity in respect of the LGBTQ+ community.
While the survey is predominantly seeking opinions and experiences from LGBTQ+ professionals working within the UK built environment sector, allies are encouraged to share their views and it is open to everyone, regardless of sexuality.
All survey responses are treated as confidential, unless participants state otherwise, and results will be used to help highlight best practice in the sector – shining a light on “exemplar” firms that are working hard on making the sector a more inclusive place, and laying bare the true experiences of the LGBTQ+ community in real estate.
“In the absence of any genuine accountability for reporting LGBTQ+ data, this is a valuable barometer to hear from people in the LGBTQ+ community and our allies,” said Freehold co-chair and Tigrou Consulting founder, Kelly Canterford.
“How do they feel about the industry, are people genuinely being supported by colleagues and their employers or does corporate speak mask inaction?“
“It’s always great to hear the success stories and give recognition to the companies and people who are creating positive change. However, year on year we see evidence of ongoing discrimination and people leaving the industry because of outdated attitudes.”
“The outcomes of this survey form an important part of our June conference and, with chief executives from across the sector in attendance, the responses people give will help shape actions for the year ahead and beyond.”
Scott Parsons, Freehold co-chair and chief operating officer at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, added: “By participating in surveys like this one, you’re providing valuable insight to businesses and D&I groups like Freehold on how the real estate industry is progressing on its journey to become more inclusive and to attract a more diverse range of talent.
“We’ve come a long way since I joined the industry in the 1990s but we still have a long way to go.”
The survey remains open for one month, until the end of Sunday 9 June.
