Tameside council has granted London-based property company Hark Group an extension to its planning consent for a proposed 180,000 sq ft redevelopment of Ashton Arcades shopping centre in Aston-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester.
Hark originally gained planning consent for the £40m, 180,000 sq ft extension in 2006, comprising a department store, a number of new retail units, 600 rooftop parking spaces and an integrated bus station.
The project was delayed due to the recession.
Rob Cossey, director of Hark Group said: “This announcement shows that the council continues to support our ambition to develop the retail offer at Ashton Arcades.
“We have worked very closely with our public sector partners at Tameside Council and GMPTE to design an integrated scheme which can be progressively developed to continue the regeneration of Ashton town centre.”
