Halfords, the car and cycle accessories retailer, has taken an 11,798 sq m (127,000 sq ft) unit in Broad Ground Road in Redditch, 12 miles to the south of Birmingham, for its national bicycle distribution centre.
The retailer is paying a rumoured rent of £43 per sq m (£4 per sq ft) for the warehouse which was built in 1988. The new thirteen year lease includes a break option in the third year.
Halfords will be relocating from its existing bicycle storage unit in Wednesbury to the new unit which is located 300 yards from the retailer’s head office. At the end of last year Halfords announced plans for 50 new stores within the M25 over the next twoyears as part of a drive to double its outlets in the UK to over 500.
