Hundreds of new al fresco dining seats will be in place across Mayfair and Belgravia as pubs and restaurants begin reopening for outdoor service next week.
West London landlord Grosvenor has said it will help provide more than 800 outdoor dining places across its vast estate to help hospitality tenants bring in customers.
Following a pilot scheme last summer, North Audley Street in Mayfair will be turned into an “outdoor dining room”, with heaters, lighting and wider pavements to accommodate customers, the landlord said. Meanwhile, Grosvenor Square will play host to new seating for 150 people to accommodate people buying takeaway meals.
Last week, Covent Garden landlord Capco made a similar commitment, installing 500 extra outdoor dining seats across its West End estate. It follows calls from hospitality industry chiefs for a relaxation of licensing laws to allow more restaurants to reopen this month.
Piers Townley, interim London estate director at Grosvenor, said the firm had “invested in new experiences for visitors, and with over 800 outdoor dining spaces across Mayfair and Belgravia, there’s something for everyone to enjoy”.
He added: “We will continue to demonstrate our support for the retailers and restaurateurs that make Mayfair and Belgravia special, and look forward to announcing new initiatives soon.”
