Glasgow named UK’s least green city

Glasgow is the UK’s least green city, according to a new report.

The verdict is not based on sustainability, where the COP26 host scores rather highly, but on literal green space.

Scientists from the University of Sheffield and Flinders University in Australia factored in tree cover and amount of vegetation as well as public green spaces such as parks and sports pitches in 68 city centres that were home to more than 100,000 people around the UK.

Exeter was found to be the British city with the most green, while Middlesbrough, Sheffield, Liverpool and Leeds filled in the bottom five.

Islington, Bristol, Bournemouth and Cambridge completed the the top five, suggesting a clear north-south divide.
