Get Living tweaks plans to address Elephant and the rooms

Get Living has updated its proposals for the West site of the Elephant and Castle Town Centre development, SE1.

The previous proposals, revealed by EG in July, included replacing part of the consent the developer received for the site in 2019 with a 450-bed student accommodation building.

Get Living has now further developed its plans in response to stakeholder and community feedback and reduced the height of two towers by one storey.

It has also increased the number of homes planned for the site by nine, bringing the total to 507.

Its previous consented plans for the site comprised 498 flats, including 165 affordable homes, across three towers.

The site is the former home of London College of Communication and University Arts London, which sits alongside its existing neighbourhood at Elephant Central.

The developer is under construction on the East site of masterplan, which is set to complete in 2026 and will provide 135,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, 55,000 sq ft of workspace, 485 homes and a building for UAL’s London College of Communication.

Get Living changed the plans as it found that since 2019, policy and regulatory changes have been altered and it is “using the opportunity to improve its proposals to ensure they better meet the needs of the local area”.

Rick de Blaby, chief executive at Get Living, said: “We would like to thank all the members of the local community who attended our first round of public consultation in July this year, which introduced our enhanced plans for the West site.

“We were encouraged by the level of engagement and feedback we received, and the recognition from the local community and stakeholders of the benefits that our proposals will bring to Elephant and Castle.

“We take our responsibility to create a new future for The Elephant incredibly seriously, so we look forward to working in partnership with the local community to bring our bold new vision to life in a way that benefits all stakeholders.”
