GBR Phoenix Beard shows who’s boss in Birmingham

GBR Phoenix Beard saw off strong competition to take first place in EGi’s Birmingham office league table for the year to April.

Disposing of nearly 470,000 sq ft of space – a 93% rise on last year – it kept CBRE off the top spot for the second year running, despite the national stalwart acting on just shy of 450,000 sq ft, 85% up on the year before.

Sheer volume of deals – more than double its nearest competitor – signed by the local agent boosted it to the top spot although its total was topped up by the 97,000 sq ft HS2 letting at 2 Snowhill.

CBRE, along with joint agents Bilfinger GVA, signed the biggest deal of the year and in the 211,000 sq ft letting of 2 Arena Central to HSBC, a letting more than twice the size of the next largest deal. Without this CBRE would have slipped to third place, behind JLL.

A strong year for the market overall saw disposals up by 60% in terms of floorspace, and even if the HSBC deal is taken out of the equation there was 36% increase in activity.
