Former nightclub Liquid Envy in Newcastle has been bought by developer Kier Property to be turned into a student accommodation block.

The development will include 329 bedrooms, including 209 en suite cluster bedrooms and 120 studios. It will also provide 5,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space.

Kier Property has a pipeline of more than 1,000 student rooms, including land recently acquired in Southampton to develop a 423-bed scheme offering a variety of room types and communal facilities.

The scheme will be constructed by Robertson Construction and will be built on a phased basis, with final completion expected in September 2017.
