One of Britain’s great strategic airfields, whose neighbours include Airbus and Rolls-Royce but which has been closed to flights since 2012, is to live again as a residential and commercial development.
Filton airfield was bought by YTL, a Malaysian construction conglomerate that has been on the margins in Britain without ever building a significant presence here, for £120m five years ago.
YTL is now planning to redevelop the 350-acre airfield into 5,000 homes and a commercial cluster of small aerospace and technology companies.
