Facing crisis with kindness: Mental Health Awareness Week on EG

Welcome to a round-up of EG’s coverage from Mental Health Awareness Week.

Once set to highlight issues around sleep, the theme for this year was switched by the Mental Health Foundation to kindness in response to the coronavirus crisis.

Over a series of podcasts, columns and interviews during the week, we’ve explored how the kindness we have all encountered during these difficult weeks can be continued and reshape our businesses, workplaces and working practices.

That includes the ways in which corporate wellbeing programmes have been adapted during lockdown, and the rise of mental health on the business agenda during this crisis; the changes that will need to be made in our offices and other workplaces to support wellbeing as we return to some semblance of normality; and visions of what a kinder real estate might look like over the longer term.

We also interviewed Tony Brown, head of M&G Real Estate, on what it takes to drive a wellbeing strategy from the very top of a big business, while Beth Garland of Hollis offered her thoughts on charitable support, and LionHeart chief executive Davina Goodchild explored the many ways in which organisations can show kindness to their teams.

Thanks to all of those who shared their time and thoughts with us over the week, and do head to EG’s dedicated mental health hub for these stories and more to come.
