Bryant aims for Swiss heights
Just as Kate Bush makes her comeback, Gerald Eve surveyor Amy Byrant is also getting ready to be “running up that hill” in a challenging mountain marathon.
Bryant is taking part in the Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland on 13 September to raise money for the Myles Robinson Memorial Trust. Billed as the most beautiful marathon in the world, the Jungfrau course starts in Interlaken and rises 6,000ft to finish at the Kleine Scheidegg.
“I should have chosen a flatter course for my first marathon,” says Bryant, “but I didn’t want to risk doing one marathon and not wanting ever to run again.”
Both the location of the marathon and the trust hold happy and sad memories for Bryant. The young surveyor has been skiing in the region for more than 15 years with family and friends. But her good friend Myles Robinson passed away in the mountains while skiing in 2009.
The trust set up in his name is aligned to one of the United Nations’ eight Millennium Development Goals – universal education. Its goal is to ensure that, by 2015, children everywhere will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling. The trust will do this by supporting charities that enable young British people to travel overseas either to teach children or to help develop educational facilities in the poorest of developing countries.

Fit thrillseekers to conquer City icons
Three City of London buildings will be open to thrillseekers to take part in a climbing and abseiling event for charity.
The London 3 Peaks challenge will see competitors race up the combined 2,088 steps of the Gherkin, Salesforce Tower (formerly the Heron Tower) and 200 Aldersgate before abseiling back down Aldersgate. The challenge also includes a 5km run. Participants are asked to sign up now for the 5 October event, which is in aid of the Stand Up to Cancer campaign.
It costs £75 to enter and competitors are asked to raise £900 each. Teams of three can enter. To sign up, visit www.standuptocancer.org.uk
Records fall in Regent’s Park
The JLL Property 5k saw records broken on the course and in the charity pot as 1,000 runners descended on Regent’s Park for the annual event.
Competitive and charitable spirit were both on show: Ben Bradley of Cromwell Holdings set a course record with a time of 16:21 and participants raised a whopping £20,000 for Samaritans – the biggest total in the six years of the event.
The figure was bumped up by JLL chief executive Guy Grainger, who completed the course in a Fred Flintstone costume (below, centre), donating £1 for each person he overtook. He then became the latest in a slew of property chiefs to do the ALS ice bucket challenge.
Andrew Mercer of Capita came second and won the men’s masters title for the second year, clocking 16:26. The fastest female was Charlotte Sanderson of Delta Simons with a time of 19:03. Sara Black of Mount Anvil took the women’s masters title with a time of 20:32.
Graduates’ soirée nets charity cash
Savills’ graduate surveyors rallied their industry peers for a summer party that raised thousands of pounds for charity.
Some 400 young property professionals attended the soirée at Broadway House Members Club in Fulham Broadway, SW6, on 21 August.
Agents, surveyors, lenders, investors and developers took the opportunity to network into the wee hours, following a raffle and barbecue.
Savills graduate surveyor Ben Beck, who is part of the Savills Graduate Charity Committee, which organised the event, said: “We were delighted with the success of the Savills’ Young Property Professionals Summer Garden Party. The money we have raised will make a huge difference to the lives of children suffering from life-limiting and terminal illnesses.”
Attendees raised £4,300 for the charity Dreams Come True. You can donate at www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/savillsgraduatecharitycommittee
Riders keep rolling
Donations continue to come in for the eight-strong Hyder Consulting team who completed the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 last month.
The team of design and engineering consultants – Fiachra de Bhulbh, Russell Down, Suf Haddo, Robin Jones, David Ord, Graham Reid, Marcus Schodorf and Adam Smith – have been delighted by the £6,000-plus given so far.
The team are now holding a staff raffle to boost their fundraising efforts for Young Epilepsy.
