All members of the RICS’s standards and regulation board have tendered their resignation.
In an e-mail to RICS members, sent earlier this evening and seen by EG, its president and chair of governing council, Ann Gray, said the organisation accepted a letter of resignation from the chair of the standards and regulation board, Dame Janet Paraskeva, “in the last few days”.
Since then, the entire board has also tendered their resignation, said Gray. She said in the e-mail that they are able to work a short notice period to “ensure a smooth transition for their successors”.
Gray added that the RICS has begun the search for a replacement chair and board members.
Paraskeva had been reappointed as chair of the SRB in September last year for a further three-year term.
There are four SRB members, according to the RICS’s website: Turner & Townsend director Bruce Haswell, EY partner Leigh Miller, surveyor Richard Waterhouse and Lionheart global ambassador Dele Oyekanmi. Additionally, there are five independent members.
The SRB is responsible for exercising the RICS’ regulatory functions, including strategy, governance, structure, policy and operational oversight in the public interest. It is independently led and reports to the governing council.
It also oversees the activities of the RICS’ professional standards, entry and admission to the profession, education and qualification standards, regulatory operations, dispute resolution services and the Regulatory Tribunal.
“RICS passionately believes in robust self-regulation in the public interest,” Gray said in the e-mail.
“We thank Dame Janet and her colleagues on the SRB for their service to RICS – their contributions have been immensely valuable across numerous areas including the new rules of conduct, fire safety and valuation.”
