Empiric’s Manchester PBSA expansion approved

Empiric Student Property’s proposals for the redevelopment of Victoria Point in Manchester have been given a go-ahead by the city council.

The move comes after the scheme was deferred in October, pending a site visit.

The developer bought the 561-bed student accommodation scheme on Hathersage Road in 2016 for £29.5m from MCR Property Group.

Empiric will now embark on the transformation of the existing six buildings on the 3.8-acre site, ranging in height from four to six storeys. Block 1 would be retained, with block 5 extended upwards. Blocks 2 and 3 would have their structure partially retained, while blocks 4 and 6 would be demolished.

The redevelopment plans, designed by 5plus Architects and Bell Phillips Architects, would increase the number of beds to 876 across studios, two-, three- and four-bedroom flats.

Turley is advising Empiric on planning.
