EG’s news agenda: What to look out for this week

Tuesday

Glasgow City Council’s planning committee will meet to discuss the fate of the former HMRC building, known as Portcullis House, at Charing Cross. Watkin Jones’ proposals to transform the space into 784 student homes, across two buildings of 36 and 10 storeys has been recommended for approval. The development is also expected to provide the charity Glasgow Social Enterprise Network with a new home, occupying the ground floor free of charge.

In Liverpool, the city planners have been recommended to green light JSM Company Group’s plans to convert the upper floors of the 1800s Fruit Exchange Building on Victoria Street into 81-bedroom hotel with restaurant and bar.

Wednesday

Trinity College is set to secure a decision from Cambridge City Council planners on its proposed office and research and development facility at Cambridge Science Park. The scheme, which spans 141,305 sq ft on a vacant 1.7-acre plot, has been recommended for approval.

Thursday

Aberdeen City Council will decide on the future of Persley Croft’s proposed battery energy storage system development with a capacity up to 49.9 megawatts in Danestone. If approved, the facility will be run by Field, which was founded by Amit Gudka, the co-founder of collapsed UK energy firm Bulb.

Friday
