EG’s news agenda: What to look out for this week

Monday

The government launches its new “modern” industrial strategy this morning with a consultation on the proposed strategy going live at 9.30am. Businesses up and down the country are invited to share their thoughts on the overall vision, approach to growth sectors and the policy levers needed to drive investment. The consultation closes on 24 November.

Tuesday

Bellway will report its final results early morning, with both housing revenue and completions expected to be about 30% below the prior year. The move comes amid challenging operating conditions during the year, but the housebuilder hopes to return to growth in financial 2025.

Oxford City Council’s planning committee will have Railpen’s conversion plans for Eastpoint Business Park on the table. The officer has recommended that the proposals, featuring the delivery of 215,278 sq ft campus for life sciences research and development, for approval.

In addition, the council will be expected to make a decision on the transformation of the Odeon cinema at George Street into Staycity aparthotel. Marick Real Estate is expected to get the nod for the 145-bedroom scheme.

An investment manager is set to launch a fund with a new “rent to own” strategy targeting tenants in the Midlands, York and the North West.

Wednesday

Whitbread will be publishing its financial statement for the 26 weeks to 30 September, which is expected to show moderate growth. The positive performance is driven by the company’s Accelerating Growth Plan, which has an ambition to optimise food and beverage offering at a number of sites and add 3,500 rooms to its UK pipeline.

Landsec U+I and TOWN will hold another pre-application meeting with Cambridge City Council to discuss its ambitions for Hartree, a new residential-led mixed-use quarter proposed in the North East of the city. During the most recent pre-application meeting in February this year, the partners proposed delivering 1m sq ft of commercial and research and development space, representing a sharp increase on the initial plan to deliver 250,000 sq ft.

Cheshire West and Chester Council will decide on the extension of the current lease agreement for Storyhouse. Picturehouse Entertainment seeks to remain as the operator of the 26,048 sq ft cultural centre for a further 10 years to 2047 from 2037.

Thursday

Shepherd Chartered Surveyors’ latest auction will take place, featuring 24 lots of commercial property and development land located across Scotland. Included in the sale are a former police box in Edinburgh, a former Tourist Information Centre in Bowmore, Dunain House located just outside Inverness, and others.

Norwich Council is poised to choose the best option for the City Hall revamp. The report sets out opportunities to refurbish the Grade II listed historic building to provide better public access, fit-for-purpose council office space, grade-A lettable space and event and conference opportunities. The second option would go a step further by adding an extension to the rear for office, hotel or residential use, a new courtyard to the rear and improvements to the public spaces around City Hall.

Friday
