CBRE has been appointed to dispose of the 35 TGI Fridays sites not rescued from administration. Breal Capital and Calveton, owners of restaurant group D&D, have agreed to buy the American-themed chain, but will take on only 51 of its 86 locations.

US business news TV channel CNBC is closing in on a deal to take new studio space in London, in a transaction that real estate professionals say would be a vote of confidence in the Square Mile’s ability to become a hub for media broadcasting.

Shopping centre investment in the first nine months of 2024 has already surpassed the 2023 total. Figures compiled exclusively for EG by Savills reveal that just over £1.2bn of shopping centres have already traded this year in 38 deals. And the even better news for agents? There’s more than £700m in deals yet to be done before the year-end tally takes place.
Retail rebounds as 2024 total adds up
General Projects has added four hires to its team and promoted others as it seeks to grow the business and expand into new sectors including hotels and homes. Founder and chief executive Jacob Loftus said: “The General Projects mission will always be about continuing to champion the creative reuse of underused assets, but we are excited to move into the next phase of the brand by building out our sector expertise from workplaces to hospitality and residential projects.”

Canary Wharf Group has had plans to revamp Montgomery Square knocked back by Tower Hamlets Council’s planning committee. The company had wanted to add a retail pavilion at the site, but the committee decided that the development would hurt local businesses and cause traffic congestion and other problems for local residents. CWG said it was “disappointed” by the decision.
