Picking the next big property hot-spot for a city as large and diverse as London is not easy.
But, The Shard’s developer, Irvine Sellar, had one answer for Estates Gazette’s Question Time audience: “I think you’re in it actually,” he said.
“Where else could you be, better than probably the best looking building in Europe?”
Sellar was speaking in front of a packed audience of 200 at Estates Gazette’s sold-out London Question Time event.
The event was held on the 22nd floor of the 1,016ft skyscraper.
EG editor Damian Wild chaired a stellar panel comprising Shard developer Irvine Sellar, Savills UK chairman and chief executive Mark Ridley, Crossrail land and property director Ian Lindsay, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris director Simon Allford, Linklaters head of London real estate Andy Bruce, iCITY chief executive Gavin Poole and Lloyds Bank managing director and head of corporate real estate business support Richard Dakin.
At the event, Sellar also revealed he was working up plans for a 150-home apartment block next to The Shard in London Bridge Quarter.
“We have other land (around the Shard) and we will be in for planning very soon for a development of approximately 150 apartments that will sit between the Shard and the Place and they will be mid priced,” he said.
