EG Podcast: Jim Cumbes on Old Trafford

Lancashire County Cricket Club chief executive Jim Cumbes has admitted to Estates Gazette that he did not expect the case against the redevelopment of his club’s Old Trafford cricket ground to be concluded so swiftly.

On Monday, Court of Appeal judges took just three minutes to make their decision to throw out a case brought by Derwent Holdings against the redevelopment of Manchester’s Old Trafford by LCCC, Ask Developments and Tesco.

The developer, owned by Isle of Man-based Albert Gubay, objected to the inclusion of a 100,000 sq ft Tesco store within the project. It had previously been denied planning consent for a supermarket at its nearby White City retail park.

Cumbes also said the decision paves the way for Old Trafford to host an Ashes test match in 2013.
