Hundreds of entries landed in judges’ inboxes for this year’s EG Awards, with fierce competition for categories leading to tough decisions for our carefully curated panel.
Our judges had the unenviable task of whittling down the reams of entries to more than 150 shortlisted companies and individuals. It was not easy, and many of those that didn’t get shortlisted still impressed. We encourage you to enter again next year.
From sustainability to social impact, deal of the year to the future of real estate, what all our submissions showed was that real estate has plenty to celebrate for the year under review and we look forward to having you join us for the very best and biggest celebration of all the sector does at the Grosvenor House hotel on 2 November. THE SHORTLIST
1. UK Adviser Award
This category is for all UK real estate advisory businesses that have at least eight administrative offices around the UK and an annual turnover in excess of £40m.

2. Global Adviser Award
Open to all real estate advisers that have fee-earning subsidiaries on at least three continents, judges looked for businesses that proved they have been market leaders across numerous geographies and have adapted to the challenges brought about by the pandemic to ensure their business has remained successful globally.

3. UK Company Award
Entrants in this category must be UK registered and have an annual turnover in excess of £40m. Companies must prove they have been market leaders throughout the period under review.

4. Global Company Award
Open to businesses operating in the real estate sphere that have a footprint in the UK and beyond. Judges looked for companies that could clearly demonstrate robust financial performance and show clear indicators of success.

5. Legal Team Award
Open to legal teams working on planning, transactions, investment, financing, development and construction, as well as in environment and regeneration. 6. BTR Specialist Award
This award is open to developers, investors, operators and managers of purpose-built rented residential assets that seek to solve not only housing issues, but societal and environmental issues.

9. Best Workplace Award
This award was open to advisers, occupiers, architects, designers and landlords that could provide solid evidence they have enabled the creation of the most functional and productive workplaces in the UK. In a period when our view of the workplace has shifted momentously, judges were keen to see evidence of how office space has been adapted to meet the needs of more flexible workforce.

10. Public/Private Award
This award seeks to celebrate partnerships between the public and private sectors that are delivering solutions through real estate.

11. Rising Star Award
The award is open to anyone working in the sector under the age of 35. They can be traditionally trained or come from a non-property background, as long as they are making an impact on the industry right now. EG’s Rising Stars will be revealed in a special photoshoot and interview in our 10 September issue.
12. Sustainability Award
This award is open to all companies active in the built environment, including agents, developers, investors and architects. Judges looked for clear, quantitative examples of improvements being taken by the business, through its business practices and, if relevant, across its portfolio, to improve sustainability.

13. Social Impact Award
Judges looked for evidence of businesses using their position and status to deliver a positive impact on society. 14. Employer Award
This award celebrates businesses that get the basics right and go the extra mile for their staff. 16. City of the Year Award
This award celebrates the UK’s cities and the work they are doing to create liveable, successful places. Judges looked for evidence of solutions that have enabled cities to not just survive but thrive, creating homes to allow all people to live safely and happily, an economy that allows businesses to grow and develop, and spaces that allow the planet to thrive.

17. Outstanding Individual Award
This award celebrates an individual in the built environment who has had an outstanding impact on the sector. EG will be looking for an individual who has created amazing places, been involved in some of the most transformative deals or created real change across the industry. The recipient will be announced at the EG Awards.
18. Inclusive Design Award
New for 2022 and born out of our Future Leaders programme, this is an award for any project where the entrant can demonstrate that inclusiveness was at the heart of the design and that the project is accessible and functional to any person. While it is primarily focused on physical disability, judges will also be looking for neurodivergent-friendly design.

19. London Deal Award
The property industry continues to thrive on deals: eye-catching transactions that deliver results. This award celebrates the best of those deals.

20. Regional Deal Award
Judges looked for evidence of innovation and high returns, perhaps even of opening up a sector or region for future growth. Deals should involve assets based in the UK, though global transactions were also considered.
