Edinburgh concert hall goes back to drawing board

A £70m concert hall in Edinburgh will have to be redesigned because it would block the view of a new hotel.

The Dunard Centre was envisaged as a four-storey building that loomed over the bank of Scotland building on St Andrew’s Square.

But the design has been bitterly opposed by Nuveen, which claims that the height of the hall would ruin the view from its 12-storey “ribbon” hotel, part of its £1bn St James development.

It’s opposition had forced Impact Scotland, the charity behind the concert venue, to seek other sites, but Nuveen has now said it would accept an amended design.
