Dozen redundancies at JLL Scotland

John Clement, one of Edinburgh’s best known office agents, has been made redundant following redundancy consultations at Jones Lang LaSalle in Scotland.

Clement, who led the offices team in Edinburgh, had previously worked as a partner at King Sturge for the past 10 years. He was informed about the redundancy consultations three weeks ago and leaves the firm today.

Around 10 to 12 employees have been placed under redundancy consultation in the firm’s Edinburgh and Glasgow offices, primarily on the transactions side of the business.

Clement said: “Transactions are down, so it makes sense.”

He confirmed that two staff are under consultation in Edinburgh’s investment team and four on the agency side, the same is believed to be happening in Glasgow.

JLL employs around 80 staff in Edinburgh and about 60 in Glasgow.

The possible redundancies form part of the agent’s nationwide job cuts.

The company announced earlier this month that it would have to make a “limited number” of job cuts in response to the ongoing economic downturn. Up to 120 jobs could be affected UK-wide.

Last week it emerged that as many as 13 posts were under consultation in JLL’s Birmingham office.

JLL declined to comment.
