Following the success of EG’s Future Female Leaders project in 2019, we have pledged to continue our programme of training the industry’s future leaders with at least two further cohorts in 2020.
Back in partnership with Ginger Public Speaking, a range of women from across the built environment will again be undergoing Ginger’s intense training schedule, learning the skills and building the confidence to be not just a future leader, but a leader today.
Culminating, just like in 2019, with a high-octane and overwhelmingly inspiring event in the summer, this year’s Future Female Leaders project kicks off officially on 20 February. But before we meet this year’s cohorts, let’s hear from some of our key partners on FFL: the second coming.
A more diverse workplace fosters an environment where new ideas, creativity and innovation thrive

Why DLA Piper is supporting Future Female Leaders
I’m delighted that DLA Piper is partnering with EG on the Future Female Leaders programme for a second year. Our previous participant, Alanna Hasek, gained so much through her involvement, from the public speaking training through to the networking opportunities that it provided. She has formed some excellent new working relationships, which for me is the essence of the programme.
Much like law, real estate has historically been a male-dominated industry. However, against this backdrop I have been incredibly encouraged by the step change that has been occurring in recent years. We have also been playing our part within DLA Piper. In 2019, we welcomed five new partners to our UK real estate team, all of whom were women.
One of those new partners is Katie Jacobson, who will be our candidate for this year’s programme. Katie joined DLA Piper from Hogan Lovells in October last year, focusing primarily on institutional investors across the retail, office and industrial sectors. She is known for her engaging style and direct advice to clients, so it will be interesting to see what she both brings to and takes away from this year’s programme.
Over recent years we have been working hard, and making good progress, in improving the gender balance of the real estate team at DLA Piper and are starting to reap the benefits that are becoming clearer to many throughout the industry. A more diverse workplace fosters an environment where new ideas, creativity and innovation thrive, which not only benefits our clients but is also an essential part of our future success and growth.
To further this, we are proud members of Real Estate Balance, and have signed up to its CEO Commitments. We have also been collaborating with others in the industry to host mentoring lunches for women in order to share ideas and promote positive role models.
We hope that these initiatives and steps we are taking, which include our involvement with this year’s EG Future Female Leaders programme, will increase the momentum of change within our firm and also support that throughout our industry.
