Charity and social: Cala Group heads to India to build a home

Cala Group has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Great Britain to build a safe home for a vulnerable family in India. The partnership follows the success of the Big Build project in Cambodia earlier this year.

The ‘Build 2020’ team will be made up of 11 employees who will travel to Pondicherry, India, in February to build a home for a local family currently living in an informal settlement without proper sanitation facilities.

Cala Group will also be raising funds for HFHGB which works to help tackle the global housing crisis.

Chestertons wraps up coat collection for winter

Chestertons collected over 3,000 coats in November for the Calling London Winter Coat Campaign. The initiative collects unwanted coats for vulnerable Londoners and distributes them to charities in and around London.

For the ninth year, Chestertons turned its high-street offices into collection points, and some of its staff used their annual ‘volunteer day’ to help sort through the donations.

More than 40 charities benefit from the campaign and include; St Mungo’s, Crisis at Christmas, Help our Homeless, Dress for Success and Suited & Booted.

Giles Milner, marketing director and chairman of Chestertons Charity Champions, said: “I love seeing our branches turned into collection points every year and am so glad that we can use our high-street presence for such a great cause.”

More hirsute pursuits in Movember

More than 35 colleagues at Fisher German and Vine Property Management put down their razors during November to raise over £6,300 for Movember. James Rigby, senior partner at Vine, raised £4,165, with some clients sponsoring him to keep his moustache until the end of the year.

Matthews & Goodman signs up to Give an Hour to inspire the next generation

The Growth Platform – Liverpool City Region Growth Company and The Careers & Enterprise Company launched the ‘Give an Hour’ campaign last summer to encourage local businesses to influence the future of young people.

The initiative has hit its initial target of signing up 100 employers, with close to 150 businesses enlisted.

The campaign emphasises the importance of utilising the career opportunities, skills, and knowledge of businesses, and passing on these invaluable skills to young people through interview practice, mentoring and speaking at career events.

Property consultancy Matthews & Goodman has already signed up to the scheme. After attending a recent career event at Belvedere Academy, partner Lynn Haime said: “It was great to meet the future generations of businesswomen and listen to their aspirations. Hopefully by sharing my own story of the journey into the world of commercial property I can encourage and inspire others to follow suit into what is a varied and rewarding industry.”
