Clivedale London has got the go ahead to transform the former headquarters of De Beers UK at 20 Carlton House Terrace, SW1, into a new Covid-compliant 162,000 sq ft office.
The new-look office, designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, will add a further three floors to the 1970s St James’s building, a new 2,700 sq ft double-height reception and a 1,200 sq ft triple-height, top-lit atrium.
Graham Stirk, senior design partner at RSHP, said the “labyrinthine internal design” had been reconfigured to enable more flexible floorplates and create a space that would be attractive in a post-pandemic environment.
Alongside the opened-up floorplates, some 8,000 sq ft of garden terraces will be added to the three new storeys, with basement levels providing cycle, shower and gym facilities.
The scheme is scheduled to complete in 2023.
