Diageo says cheers to Covent Garden microbrewery consent

Diageo has secured the green light for a £73m Guinness microbrewery at Old Brewer’s Yard, WC2, from Westminster City Council.

Planning committee members voted three to one in favour of the proposals this evening (9 August), with two deferring. Permission was subject to amendments to the capacity, operating hours and exits at the site.

The site will measure 50,000 sq ft and comprise a seven-storey building, plus terrace, with a bar, restaurant and roof terrace at 28-32 Shelton Street; a store at 15A Neal Street; a basement for events with entrance from the yard at 5 Langley Street and a microbrewery with ancillary space and bar at 1 Mercer Walk.

The proposals also include a public courtyard with outdoor food and drink area.

The scheme will have space for 1,122 customers and is expected to create 150 new jobs. Works are expected to complete in autumn 2023.

Knight Frank acted for the Mercers’ Company; JLL advised Diageo.
