Developer behind Cardiff’s tallest hotel goes into administration

The property company behind plans for Cardiff’s tallest hotel has collapsed into administration.

Imperial Property Company, owned by property entrepreneur Nick Sutton, collapsed into administration last month.

Administrator Deloitte has not reported what is owed to creditors but it is thought to be around £3m.

Intex Construction, the principal builder of the 21-storey Radisson Blu building in Cardiff city centre, has said it has been forced to make 30 workers redundant as a result of the firm allegedly failing to pay them around £500,000 for work on the hotel in Cardiff, as well as on another hotel project in Bristol.

The hotel is being managed and run by Radisson and remains open, although conference and meeting rooms remain uncompleted.

Richard Hawes, of Deloitte, said: “We are at the early stages of the administration, and are focusing on continuing to trade the business as usual.”
