Derby unveils science park plans

Derby City Council has unveiled multi-million-pound plans for the new University of Derby Science Park in the city at MIPIM today.

The science park will be located next to the existing headquarters of Rolls-Royce in Derby.

Borne out of a partnership between the University of Derby, Derby City Council and the private sector, the University of Derby Science Park will be targeted towards start-ups and SMEs.

University of Derby vice-chancellor Kathryn Mitchell said the teams of academics and students will provide an “extra dimension to engender innovation and develop world-class products”.

She added: “This opportunity to work within an outstanding facility with a group of innovators is very much welcomed, especially due to the proximity to the manufacturing bases of prestigious companies such as Rolls-Royce, Toyota, Bombardier and JCB.”

The science park will be located on Infinity Park, just to the south of Derby, and will have enterprise zone status. Studios and workshops of up to 10,000 sq ft will be available.
