Derby digs get green light

Derby-Agard-Street-student-block

Jensco (Derby) has won consent for a 244-bed student accommodation scheme in Derby city centre.

The block will sit on Agard Street, next to the University of Derby law department.

Both buildings were originally known as the Friar Gate Square development, which was planned by developer Lowbridge with a regeneration fund grant from Derby city council. The first 33,000 sq ft office building was built speculatively by Lowbridge, but the£20m building stood empty for two years before a 33-year lease with the University of Derby was agreed this summer.

The second phase was also due to house offices, but the land was instead sold to Jensco for the student housing scheme.
