Derby appoints consultant for post-Covid regeneration plan

Derby City Council has appointed a consultant to help create a post-Covid economic recovery plan.

Derek Latham and Co will help create an integrated property strategy for the council for regenerating vacant, under-performing and vulnerable buildings in the heart of the city centre.

It will be part of the new masterplan to reinvent the city centre to react to the “considerable challenges it is facing”, according to council documents.

The masterplan will look to attract and retain more workers into the city, create new and improved public spaces, and improve connectivity within the city centre as well as surrounding areas.

The consultant has already been part of the emergency economic recovery task force for the city and has provided most of the evidence base that will underpin the IPS and recovery masterplan, according to the council.

The masterplan project will end on 31 March 2022.
