Decathlon sprints into West Midlands store

International sports retailer Decathlon has been granted planning consent for a 51,871 sq ft store on Axletree Way in Wednesbury, in the West Midlands.

Sandwell council has agreed change of use of the building from its original industrial designation to allow the retailer to trade and Decathlon will buy the site’s freehold now its application has been approved.

Rob Crolla, of planning adviser Indigo Planning, said: “This decision brings back into use a site that has been unused for almost a decade.

“Following the finalisation of the planning consent this week, Decathlon will open its new Wednesbury store as soon as possible – likely to be later this year.

“Its range of sports and leisure goods will address local demand and complement the retailers already trading at Junction 9 Retail Park next door.”
