Chris Lazari, the Cypriot billionaire and London property investor, has passed away. He died in his north London home yesterday from a heart attack aged 69.
His property company, Lazari Investments, will continue to be run in its current form by his three children – Len, Nicholas and Andrie – all of whom sit on the board of directors with his wife Mary. Lazari had held the role of chairman.
The company’s portfolio totals £2.3bn and includes prime assets such as 90-114 Oxford Street, W1, CBRE’s former headquarters, Henrietta House, WC2, and 25 Berkeley Square, W1. In Estates Gazette’s 2014 Rich List Lazari and his family ranked 34th with a fortune of £1.1bn.
Lazari was originally from Dora, Limassol, where he left for London in 1962 at the age of 16. He began working in restaurants before studying fashion and creating his own clothing company. He invested his profits in real estate and built up his empire.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday 1 August, 10am, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Church of All Saints, NW1. The burial will be at the New Southgate Cemetery, N11.
Rather than flowers there will be a donation box for the two chosen charities: Guillain-Barre & Associated Inflammatory Neuropathies and Radiomarathon – Children In Need.
