Cycle to…Italian pursuit at the Olympic Velodrome

Velodrome-cycling-generic-THUMB.jpegWe all know that property is involved in a deepening love affair with cycling and, as the Tour de France draws to a close, that love is sure to get stronger as property’s finest wonder if they could also be cycling’s finest.

Well, you could be – or at least you could definitely be in the presence of cycling’s finest.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Cycle To – the charity event organiser that brings the industry networking rides to MIPIM, MAPIC and MIPIM UK – is hosting a special dinner and race day at the Olympic Velodrome.

The event takes place on 16 September and offers industry cyclists the chance to take part in an Italian pursuit challenge before enjoying dinner, drinks and bragging rights at the inaugural Club Peloton Gala Dinner.

Mixed teams of four will take to the famous track in an attempt to replicate the triumphs of Team GB at the 2012 Olympics. To be able to race, riders must take part in one supervised training session before the big day, scheduled for 2 September.

By the end of the session, riders will be Level 4 accredited track cyclists, allowing them to race unsupervised at Lee Valley whenever the need for speed takes over.

The 16 September gala will run from 6pm to 10.30pm and will consist of several strongly contested bouts of racing, followed by drinks, dinner, awards and guest speakers David and Fran Millar. Cycle To’s 10th anniversary book will also be launched at the event.

Registration for a team of four, including full accreditation by Lee Valley Velodrome, costs £2,000+VAT. A table of 10 at the gala dinner costs £1,500+VAT, with individual tickets priced at £165+VAT.

The event is being sponsored by Linklaters, Elliott Wood, Coffey Architects, Place Careers and Hawkins/Brown, with proceeds going to the UK’s oldest children’s charity, Coram.

What is an Italian pursuit challenge?
Teams begin from a standing start on opposite sides of the 250m track. They then “pursue” each other for eight laps, aiming to overtake their opponents. Riders must remain in a pack and move around the track together, which means that teamwork and fitness are key. Every two laps, the lead rider swings off until only one rider remains to sprint it out for victory.

Cycle to MIPIM UK rides again
Last year, to mark the launch of MIPIM UK, someone – mentioning no names – did something quite nutter-like. And now you can too.

As MIPIM UK gets ready for a second year, Cycle To is launching a UK-wide cycle event for the industry to get involved in. Taking place between 17 and 20 October, Cycle To MIPIM UK is calling on riders to take part in a four-day relay event cycling from Glasgow to London.

The route, split into 50-60km stages, will take in some of the UK’s most beautiful landmarks and major cities, including the Lake District, Peak District, Malvern Hills and the Chilterns. The ride culminates at MIPIM UK, with riders facing off in a Rollapaluza challenge.

Entry for the ride includes free entry to MIPIM UK. To find out more, click here.

New mix for Cycle to MAPIC
It’s all change for the annual Cycle To MAPIC this year. After two rides from Milan to Cannes, taking in the famous Milan-San Remo route, Cycle To MAPIC is mixing things up and getting bigger.

This November’s ride will take place over four days, travelling from Barcelona to Cannes for the MAPIC conference. Starting in Barcelona on 14 November, riders will take in coastal views and one or two hills on the way to Llanca. From there, they will get to experience a little Tour de France-style climbing with a few Pyrenean ascents before dropping down to Cap D’Adge in France.

Day three takes in more of the French coast as riders head into Aix-en-Provence. Veterans of the Cycle To MIPIM will know day four well – a beautiful stage with some challenging climbs and phenomenal riding as the peloton weaves its way to the Palais on La Croisette in Cannes.

Just over 730km of riding and 6,000m of climbing look set to make this year’s Cycle To MAPIC one to remember.
