Cushman & Wakefield and property investor Hines have joined an initiative producing new safety guidelines for companies as staff return to the workplace after the coronavirus lockdown.
The project is being driven by the Well Living Lab, a collaboration between consultancy Delos and the Mayo Clinic medical research centre in Minnesota that researches buildings’ effects on human health. The new initiative will study how the spread of viruses can be prevented in the workplace through design and business practices.
C&W has joined the project with a particular focus on how physical distancing policies can be introduced to workplaces.
Delos will work on air filtration strategies that can reduce particulate matter concentration and surface hygiene rules, while Hines will feed in lessons from its development business.
“We know that buildings have a tremendous impact on our health and wellbeing, and the role of indoor spaces has now become more important than ever,” said Paul Scialla, founder and chief executive of Delos.
“As we contemplate reopening our offices in the wake of Covid-19, it is critical that we take an evidence-based approach to make our workspaces safer when we return.”
The project guidelines will be tested in the offices of C&W, Hines and Delos.
