Crossrail is preparing to search for a development partner for an eight-storey residential development in Holborn, WC1.

Crossrail has announced that in the first half of 2014 it will try to secure a partner for a HOK-designed 22-flats scheme, which has just been approved by Camden council.

The development will sit above the Fisher Street shaft – a single-storey structure that provides access and ventilation to the below ground Crossrail tunnels.

Ian Lindsay, Crossrail’s land and property director, said: “It should be an attractive site for developers and ultimately a very attractive place to live in the middle of one of the world’s greatest cities.”

Construction is expected to begin in 2017.

A total of 3m sq ft square of offices, shops and residential space, is planned above new Crossrail stations and sites.
