Crossrail and HS2 will set tills ringing in the West End

Two of the country’s biggest transport infrastructure projects, Crossrail and HS2, could pump more than £1.4bn of extra retail spending into the West End of London, a study suggests.

Research from Harper Dennis Hobbs, a retail property consultancy, suggests Crossrail 1 will push up high street spending in the area by as much as 6.3% once it is fully operational in December next year.

Crossrail 2 could bring an additional 4.5% after 2033, assuming it is approved. This equates to an additional £1.4bn in total. HS2, potentially opening in 2026, could generate a further £33m.
