Crest Nicholson poaches new chief from Galliford after uncertain year

The chairman of a struggling listed housebuilder has shown the door to the chief executive he promoted only a year ago and has hired the head of a rival to run the business.

Patrick Bergin, 53, left Crest Nicholson yesterday after a decision to change the company’s management that Stephen Stone, 65, executive chairman, admitted had been “all very recent”.

Bergin had been with the company for 13 years. He was formerly chief financial officer and chief operating officer before taking on the top job last year, replacing Stone, who had been chief executive since 2005.
