Crest Nicholson and Southern Housing launch £73m partnership

Housebuilder Crest Nicholson and housing association Southern Housing Group have agreed a £72.6m partnership across three sites in Walthamstow and Surrey.

Crest Nicholson will deliver 877 homes across the three schemes, with 205 to be managed by Southern Housing Group.

Southern Housing Group will manage the private rental homes, Section 106 affordable housing and additional intermediate housing.

It has pre-purchased the homes at Longcross Garden Village, Longhurst Park Cranleigh in Surrey, and The Essex Brewery scheme in Walthamstow.

Construction of the homes in Surrey is set to begin this month, with the first homes ready for occupation in 2020. The market sale and affordable homes have completed in Walthamstow, with the build-to-rent units to be delivered in the next six months.

The partnership builds on previous collaborations from the duo in Surrey, Southampton and Hove.

Chris Tinker, interim chief executive at Crest Nicholson, said: “Our continued partnership with Southern Housing Group will ensure that we’re able to fulfil our ambitions to deliver thriving mixed tenure homes and sustainable communities across Walthamstow, Cranleigh and Longcross.

“Partnerships will continue to form a major part of our growth strategy as we look to diversify tenures and accelerate construction and sales across a number of our key developments.”

Alan Townshend, chief executive at Southern Housing Group, said: “This new agreement with Chris and his colleagues at Crest Nicholson is an important step towards our goal, which is to increase the number of people who have good, quality housing that is truly affordable.”
