Court Collaboration’s plans to develop a brownfield site in the heart of Birmingham city centre have been approved by the council’s planning committee.
The Ora scheme will see a 1960s eyesore – the Brindley Drive car park – demolished and replaced with two build-to-rent towers.
Located next to Centenary Square and adjacent to the city centre gardens, the CallisonRTKL-designed Ora will feature a 46-storey tower and a 15-storey structure providing 581 one and two‑bedroom homes close to the Colmore Row business district.
Alex Neale, managing director of Court Collaboration, said: “This ambitious project will reinforce our commitment to operating at the forefront of sustainable design and innovative construction. Ora will also contribute to the exciting transformation currently taking place in Birmingham.”
He added: “This isn’t just a building or a home, it’s the new face of renting. It’s a lifestyle choice designed to foster collaboration, engagement and socialisation with your neighbours and the wider community. We look forward to announcing a start date for the project in the near future.”
The scheme was one of two new tower schemes approved for the city this week. Woodbourne Group’s £360m Curzon Wharf also got the go-ahead from Birmingham City Council planners. It will provide a 53-storey, 498-flat build-to-rent tower, a 41-storey, 732-bed student tower, a 14-storey, 12-flat residential development and 130,000 sq ft of office, R&D and life sciences space.
