The Planning Inspectorate has approved a 37-acre masterplan proposed by Wyndthorpe Estates to develop 245 homes in Wadebridge, Cornwall.
Cornwall Council unanimously refused the proposal in June on the grounds that it was “not an allocated site for residential development” and said part of the scheme would “intrude into the open countryside, harming the distinctive landscape character and visual amenity of the area”.
However, the masterplan, which includes 74 affordable homes, was approved in the appeals process.
Wyndthorpe Estates’ proposal also include a new relief road, open space including a play area and a community orchard, cycle paths and walkways, new woodland and ponds.
Wyndthorpe Estates director David Clark had previously told local press the development would help provide much-needed affordable homes in the town and that a refusal would result in families being unable to access housing.
